This one has gravity drainage functionality. This drainage method entails connecting a drain hose to the drain outlet that’s customarily located on the back of the unit.
The drain hose is utilized to carry the condensate towards a floor drain system located in the basement.
Test Results: The dehumidifier should be placed in a position that’s higher than the drain system i.e. drain should be on the floor.
The condensate, however, cannot be drained through the window or into the sink because this unit does not come with a built-in pump.

This unit uses a hot gas auto defrost system that works exceptionally well within the freezing basement environments. This model can remove excess moisture from basements whose temperatures go as low as 33 degrees.

Note: The heating process takes about 3 to 8 minutes before the unit can restart.

An excellent example of a humidistat device. The dehumidifier will cycle on and off in a bid to maintain the indoor moisture at the set level. This dehumidifier automatically alters its settings depending on the changes in humidity levels within the basement As it comes with SMART HUMDISTAT.
Note: Although people may use hygrometers alongside dehumidifiers that don’t have in-built humidistats, the need to monitor the humidity levels constantly and make adjustments to the unit may render such a method very inconvenient. And that is why we recommend this dehumidifier because of its SMART HUMDISTAT.

This unit comes with an auto restart feature, which is useful in areas that experience constant power interruptions. The difference in this dehumidifier is that it is an inside the wall installation which is great for someone who is looking to install a dehumidifier permanently and not worry about moving it around.
Because this is a in-wall dehumidifier, we tested this dehumidifier for 30 Days and learn that it can easily cover 1500 sqft and its maintenance free.
Another most important feature is the timer that allows a person to pre-program this unit to run for a particular period. This way, users can control the energy cost associated with running a dehumidifier.
Another important feature is manual or electronic controls. The latter is controlled through a button-type interface while the former has a dial-type control system.

A dehumidifier should have excellent air filters to help with cleaning out the air while still reducing the moisture levels. The filter in Pure & Dry is placed in a strategic position, allowing it to trap pollutants when the air is being drawn into the unit where it’s subsequently stripped off its moisture.
Note: Consider washable air filters so you have the convenience of cleaning them instead of buying and replacing them all the time.

This dehumidifier utilizes desiccants to absorb water from the air. Desiccants don’t require the vapor to be transformed into water, which implies that such a unit can dehumidify the basement consistently regardless of the temperature changes.
This basement dehumidifier is designed to operate at temperatures below 65 degrees fahrenheit. We recommend investing in this dehumidifier if you have a cold basement.
Our Testing Shows: There’s a strong link between temperature and the capacity of a dehumidifier. Therefore, a purchase of desiccant dehumidifier for basements that are colder in our opinion would be a good investment.
Our Suggestions on Other Features
Noise Levels
- To determine the levels of noise, first, check the decibel levels.
- Units whose decibels range between 0 to 30 dBs produce extremely low sound when operating.
- Those whose noise levels range between 31- 60 dBs are considered reasonably quiet and acceptable for living spaces.
- Units with 61 to 81 decibels are disruptively loud, while those whose noise levels are higher than 80 dB are impossible to talk over and should be generally avoided.
Pint Capacity
- A basement dehumidifier’s pint capacity should be close to 70 pints. But 50 Pints are also acceptable range.
- In the case of a huge basement, located in a freezing environment or near a large water body like a lake or a river, the ideal dehumidifier should have 70 or more pints.
High ACH and CFM
- ACH stands for air changes per hour, and it’s used to indicate the amount of air passing through the dehumidifier in a sixty-minute duration. Ideally, units that have a high ACH rating should be used in areas with high RH levels.
- CFM stands for cubic feet per minute. This is used to determine the right size of a dehumidifier for differently sized basements.
The Bottom Line
While they employ the same operating principle as their conventional counterparts, these dehumidifiers can work under the extremely cold and damp conditions of the basements.
These dehumidifiers are standalone appliances that are equipped with unique features and functions to enable them to function efficiently in the basements. These units can operate remarkably in both ground and below-ground spaces.
